Display List on another site

Asked By: Jody    Date: Dec 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 11109

I have a list on one site that I'd like to display on another site.

This can't easily be done can it?

I'm new to sharepoint (using for about 3 months). I do have Visual
Studio and Sharepoint Designer and have yet to use either for
Sharepoint. If I need either of these to complete the above task, I
think it might be a good exercise.

Assuming they are both in the same site  Collection the easiest way would
be to use SharePoint Designer to configure a Data Form Web Part on the
other site.

Actually you can also use the Content Query webpart to query doc libraries
or list  in other site  collections as well, if you know CAML it would be
bonus as then you could design the result set to make it look friendlier.

A really nice freeware utility to do this is called the
FlexListViewer web part. See:

Note that this utility is v2 only - it won't operate on 2007. For
that, you need this version:

Ok, last Friday I actually opened Sharepoint Designer for the first
time. This tool is going to come in VERY handy!!

I tried adding a Data Viewer Web Part to the page. It will actually
display list  items from a document library from another site  - same site
collection. I was so thrilled to see the data on the page.
I didn't see columns though, and I also didn't see a link to the
document to open it. There are also folders in the document library -
they didn't show as folders.

So, I guess what I'm really looking for is an actually Document Library
that is not a "View Only" list.

Any idea if there's a tool for that?
