Discussion Board alerts are not working in Share point 2007

I enabled the alerts option for a discussion Board in Share point .after
this I got an alert mail stating that I was subscribed to this discussion
board .

After this I tried to edit the item and created a new discussion board item
but i did not get any alerts ....

is your sharepoint server setup for sending emails ? check if SMTP is configured
from Central Administration.

Also check your junk email folder.
