Printing is not a function of SPS. It is a function of IE or the
application that opens the documents. If you did go in and change all
the code that generates the various portal views a user could still
print screen. Why do you wish to disable  printing?

A client doesn't want to allow user have a copy of a document.

There is no way to stop this considering you can simply print screen.
Also, what would stop the user from using the explorer view and dropping
a copy onto thier drive and opening it natively and printing  or even
saving the document to a local drive ect. There is probably no practical
way of stopping a user from getting a printed version without simply
denying access to a print device.

you should have a look at Office 2003 and the IRM/WRM - features which allow
you to control if a user can print, copy a document or (if it is outlook)
can forward a mail.

www.microsoft.com/.../overview.asp

* Help secure company assets by using IRM
capabilities to prevent people who receive documents or e-mail messages from
forwarding, copying, or printing  documents and attachments.

In use PDF's when we don't want a user to print the document.
Luckily, we even control what software is on the user's computer.

From what I've read Office 2003 w/ IRM/WRM might be the best way
to go.

I haven't seen anything on 2003 if it can bbe seen it can be captured. Why would
a document be on the portal if they don't want someone to print it?
