Different SQL versions in the same farm

Asked By: Betsy    Date: Aug 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1099

We have a medium size SharePoint farm with a couple of WFE, an index server, a 2005 SQL server cluster, and a 2005 SQL Reporting server in SharePoint integrated mode. I wish to know whether we can upgrade our SQL Reporting Server to 2008 and keep our SQL cluster on 2005, thus running different versions of SQL in the same farm?

As there are lots of changes made in SQL Servre 2008 please refer this link for reference msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143380.aspx for the changes

Run SQL Server Upgrade Advisor : msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx to identify any unknown issues that would come up as part of upgrade.

Upgrade should not be a problem as reporting services holds only the catalog DB, but I haven't tested it.
