Diagnostic Logging in MOSS 2007

Asked By: Parvesh    Date: Oct 14    Category: MOSS    Views: 1761

Where can I find more information on Diagnostic Logging in MOSS?
I would like to understand the definition of each of the categories
and events in Event Throttling and also would like to know if there
are any best practices for setting up the trace logs so that the log
files do not fill up the path that they are set to frequently.

These are covered in detail, in both Microsoft Press Admin Books.

SharePoint Administrator's Companion

SharePoint Administrator's Pocket Consultant

I generally choose one or the other, but not both. There are many hidden
options as well, I have some info on my blog:

Let me clarify that last post:

I usually select either 'Event Logging' or 'Trace Logging', but not
both. I only enable trace logging  (file system) when I am baselining a
system or troubleshooting.

I quickly ran out of space on the drive where the
log files were pointing to in the index server and figured out that the culprit
was "verbose" logging  which was enabled sometime back for troubleshooting search
and was not turned off
I also found this on google while I was searching for more information and this
helped to some extent to understand what each of those critical events mean.
