Asked By: Alyssa    Date: Apr 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1165

Is there anything special that needs to happen to create web parts in VS2005? I am trying to create a web part in VS2005 and am having difficulties.

I'd start by finding the 2005 web  part template.

easiest way is to get the SmartPart (http://www.smartpart.info), which allows
you to wrap an ASP.Net user control in a web  part. There's a version created
for VS 2005. I assume you're talking about WSS 2.0. If you're talking about
the WSS 3.0 Beta it gets a bit easier

I am talking about WSS2.0, but where can I get the beta for WSS 3.0?

I think the public beta is due out any day now, you can register for it at
www.microsoft.com/office/preview/default.mspx and you'll receive an email
when it becomes available.

I typically start with a VS.NET 2003 Web Part project because the Web
Part Library is not available for VS.NET 2005 yet.
