Deployment from development to production

Asked By: Travon    Date: Jul 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2365

I'm in the middle of a deployment scenario from development server to production server. (Extended sps , wss, etc...)

The deployment scenario's are really one of the weakest features inside SPS,WSS.

Anyone some recommendations or tools in order to try automation ? Incl. security handeling, DVWP, ...

Well be defined a full backup, restore procedure for brand new sites. Put still then it's not complete as we have by example different database server  which are access from the DVWP.
Another issue is the development  servers are in another domain ..........

It seems to be a great opportunity for ISV to develop something..........

luckily all our development  was done in 1 domain (dev --> staging --> production) - this seems the most typical from what ive seen.
having 2 domains makes it more tricky than anything else. i would be interested to see what methodology you take!

I did an Executive Web Circle Webcast for Microsoft on this topic. I
know that it was recorded and you should be able to find it out on their
events site. I address all the aspects of deployment  from development  to
production. And you are correct, it is a sad story. Let's hope that v3
addresses this area.
