Deploy Custom List Form as a Feature

Asked By: Scottie    Date: Nov 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2631

I am needing some direction on how to accomplish this. My client is
asking for the list form to have a very customized look. They have
specifically requested that we not use Site Templates, but build
everything as features.

Any help?

You can specify a form  within a content type, which are activated via Features.

I have looked over the WSS 3.0 SDK and I
see no way to deploy  a custom  built form  via a Content Type. I do
see the ability to create a Custom Form Template and have that
referenced from the Content Type. Is that what you were referring
to? If so, is that the only way?

Yes, that is what I was referring to.

You could also deploy  the page using a Module element and then use the feature
activated event to update the list  to use the deployed page.

I finally figured out how to accomplish  what I needed.

For all of those interested, here is the basis of what I did.

I used the form  element of the list  Schema to deploy  the custom  list forms. (It
turns out that if you leave off the SetupPath element, SharePoint will actually
use your custom forms for the list.) Once the forms were in place I used
FeatureReceiver to parse the DataForm Web Part, in each of the pages, for a
token that was predefined. Once the receiver found the token, it replaced it
with the lists GUID. In addition, while the receiver was parsing the DataForm
Web Part it also looked for the ListForm Web Part. Once a ListForm Web Part was
located the receiver marked the Web Part as hidden so it wouldn't display in the
browser.

If any one would like a code sample let me know and I will send one.
