Deleted Items document library

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Jul 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1356

Has anyone come up with a solution for aging out items in the deleted
items document library?

I like the idea of being able to permit my users to restore deleted
files, however there is a mindset that the end users will never perform
the permenant deletion of documents.

Maybe there is another solution that may be used in place of the
Deleted Items Document Library.

Another approach can be found at a GotDotNet Workspace, listed below. It
uses an ISAPI filter to make a copy of every deleted  document on a server
file system. The included solution  does not provide any way to restore  the
documents, leaving it up to admins to do that manually. However, I have
written a .Net web app that provides that interface, so admins receive the
restore request and then use my app to restore the document. Let me know if
you want more info on my app.

Since the source is provided, you can always change the filter to store the
docs in SQL server as an alternative. I really like the idea  of a filter
since it involves ZERO changes to my site. I am getting ready to implement
this in a medium server farm configuration supporting 1000's of Document

Here's the link to the GotDotNet workspace. By the way, this solution was
written by two top MS SharePoint people Andre and Joel.

I have this on my very long TODO list. It shouldn't be difficult but it
will require a scheduled server-side job.
