Cannot delete documents

Asked By: Javon    Date: Jan 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1445

Has anybody encounted a "Cannot complete this action. Please try
again" error message related to an attempt to deleting a document
within a document library. This error is occurring to all WSS sites (I
have not tried this action with a document library in a portal area).
Apprecite anybody shedding any knowledge of this.

I forgot to mention that all other document related  actions (add,
check-out, edit, checkin, etc) are working correctly.

That’s a very generic message. It basically means something went wrong. (Really helpful eh?) Make sure the application pool identity is a DBO on the database… If the App Pool identity can’t delete  a record, that might explain that kind of behavior.

Identity is dbo. This is only happening for document  libraries but
not lists. Also, I can't delete  any document library  in addition to
not being able to delete documents  within.

I have been looking and although there are a lot of instances of the
same error  (for various other situations, e.g. access, etc) nothing
matches my situation.

Can a document  be linked to more then one topic …???

Certainly, there is even UI that supports choosing multiple Areas when
creating an Area Listing.

In my experience, "Cannot complete  this action." messages are the result
of calls to the underlying COM layer that fail. The actual error  is
sometimes found in the inner exception but you usually can't do anything
about it. Often, the managed layer doesn't know what went wrong in the
COM layer and so it just says that the action  could not be completed.
