defaultlayout.aspx and such

Asked By: Devika    Date: May 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1757

I am trying to make changes to layout pages and having some trouble.
I want to create a three column layout page and I guess what I really
want to know, is on which page should this change be made?
default.master, defaultlayout.aspx (or some other layout.aspx page) or
on default.aspx?

Not sure how the defaultlayout.aspx page fits in with page rendering.
Can anyone help?

In general, Master pages  are used for the "chrome" while layout  pages
are used for the "meat" of the page, so while both are important,
generally you'd make this sort of change  via a page  layout. In this
particular case, I'd suggest creating a new page layout, the easiest way
to do that being to bring up the site in SharePoint Designer, copy and
existing layout and edit/rename the copy.
