Default Sharepoint 2007 page size

Asked By: Parvesh    Date: Oct 14    Category: MOSS    Views: 1518

According to Fiddler - it looks like the default page size for a
Sharepoint 2007 page is a little more than 800k (including about 600k
for JS).

If we had a high volume site and wanted to reduce that size, is that
possible? Can we not load the JS for anonymous users? Any other
suggestions?

No, that's not possible. The JavaScript files are used to implement a special
DOM on all Web Part pages (ala: Web Part page  Services Component), along with
other DHTML effects.

Frankly, it's one of the negatives to SP on a non-LAN environment... it has a
sizeable footprint.

I think one thing you could do is optimized the JS using some of the
optimization tools out there, but I'd caution you that (1) this is probably not
supported since you're editing the OOTB system files [so keep a backup] and (2)
you should thoroughly test this to make sure it didn't affect how the JS works.
