Decoupling WSS from SPS 2001

Asked By: Ganesh    Date: Jan 01    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 647

I have an extranet scenario wherein i want to move the WSS Database
inside my LAN on one machine but the SPS server should be outside the
LAN on other machine for internet users. This is purely for security
reasons.
Here's the scenario:

SPS Server outside LAN will be used as a search server and
SPS Server inside LAN will be used as a document management server

Is this possible ? If yes how will i acheive the following

1. Subscription Management
2. Document check-in check-out

Note: The internet users do not have access to document management
server.

I am interested in this as well.......I just assumed...probably incorrectly,
that you could run the portal on any IIS box and just point the virtual
directories at the actual SPPS server......

As far as I know, the only think that can be done is to install a index
server on a separate box but IIS and WSS need to be on the same one

Check this doc for further architecture detail

msdn.microsoft.com/.../sample.asp?ur
l=/msdn-files/027/001/816/msdncompositedoc.xml

That will be interesting when you are behind NAT...I have one IIS box
(say 192.168.1.1) that I have port forwarding to, the spps servers are
different more protected servers (say 192.168.1.2)...If I setup a hyperlink
to the SPPS boxes from the less protected IIS box it probably will not
function.....correct?

Don't think it will IIS and WSS need to be on the same box for the current
release of SPS. Look for next release to offer more deployment options

I wish I had, but I don't. I know there focus is scalability and
personalization
