DataView...can I get rid of the table?

  Asked By: Alisha    Date: Sep 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1863

I'm really loving the Dataview web part with it giving me full markup
control via XSLT.

However, it still insists on wrapping the entire output of my XSLT
transformation in a table.

Anyway to get it to stop that?

You can modify the XSLT source so it's not using a table. A fairly
straightforward edit, since the table  source is included inline with
everything else:

Web part  Properties > XSL Editor

I'm not sure if there's a way to apply that generally to the data view
web part so that if you create a new DVWP it doesn't default to a
table presentation, but it's very doable on individual web  parts.

The only indication of any TABLE markup in my XSL is this line:

<xsl:variable name="dvt_StyleName">Table</xsl:variable>

And deleting that does nothing to remove the table from my rendered
source:

<table TOPLEVEL border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
<tr>
<td valign="top"><div
WebPartID="00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" HasPers="true"
id="WebPartWPQ2" width="100%" OnlyForMePart="true" allowDelete="false"
style="" ><div id="headerImage" style="background:
url('/admin_images_courthouseBanner/Anoka_Anoka1999.jpg') no-repeat;"
xmlns:x="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/dsp"
xmlns:asp="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ASPNET/20"
xmlns:__designer="schemas.microsoft.com/WebParts/v2/DataView/desi
gner" xmlns:SharePoint="Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls"
xmlns:ddwrt2="urn:frontpage:internal"></div>
[my own markup in my XSL starts here...]

Note that it also sticks in that beast of an empty DIV for some reason.
