Database server name changed now cannot connect to server.

The db server name has changed unexpectedly for my database server.

Now sharepoint cannot connect to DB.

I have changed content server and config db info in the web-based config tool on the server to the correct one. All login info is the same and the user roles are the same.

I have changed the server names in the database tables and am not really sure where else to look.

Try uninstalling and re-intalling, after installing, select an existing Configuration database

What will happen to all my subwebs then?

Nothing, all the content is stored in the configuration/content database

Once you re-connect to the configuration database, Sharepoint will discover the site/sub-sites stored in the content database
