Database schema is too old to perform this operation...?

Asked By: Angelique    Date: May 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1878

As part of my company's disaster recovery testing I have been trying
to backup my Portal Server 2003 & WSS and restore it to a test

Both run Windows Server 2003, SQL Server2000 SP4 and Sharepoint
Portal Server 2003 SP1. All version numbers of service packs, SPS
2003, WSS & Windows server are also same.

I have backed up the production server using the GUI portal
backup/restore tool. When I try to restore the backup on the test
server using the same tool I get error message :

"The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this
SharePoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again. "

The 3 databases have been successfully created on the test server but
no entries are created in the Config Database.

I have also run the following command - STSADM -o upgrade -
forceupgrade and restarted the server for good measure, but still
same message when trying to restore backup.

there are basically two things you need to check,
first check for the version of the service packs
installed on the system you took the backup  from and
the system you want to restore the backup to. (make
sure both are the same)

the best would be if you download a fresh version of
the service pack on the source and destination
servers. then start with the backup & restoration

Next i hope you are using the backup and restore
utility provided by sharepoint and not manually
creating the database. Use the utility (this is an
easy method) and supply the manifest file name.

Hope the above makes sense.
Do let me know the result of the same.
