database migration problem

Asked By: Erin    Date: Oct 03    Category: MOSS    Views: 1093

After successfully building our MOSS 2007 farm using the database
migration method and going through a period of testing, I've run into
a problem:

Taking a recent backup of our live 2003 SITE database and using
stsadm -o addcontentdb, something that I have done a number of times
over the past months without error, it is now failing.
I removed the existing content database with preparetomove and sync
options in stsadm.

During the database upgrade process the following errors appears in
the upgrade.log:

[PortalSiteUpgradeAreaAndListingData] [12.0.1.0] [INFO] [4/4/2008
6:00:38 PM]: Upgrade encountered an unexpected error. Halting

The MOSS Portal is constructed but with a "flat" structure (every
area is build as a site on the same level without subSites. Every
C1, C2 … appear as well but with nothing inside.

Note: I have run prescan successfully on SP2003, I do have unghosted
pages, but I do not have custom templates.

I also have the following errors in Application Event Viewer:

Error loading and running event receiver
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.PublishingWebEventReceiver
in Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=12.0.0.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c. Additional
information is below.

: List does not exist

The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may
have been deleted by another user.

And:

Error loading and running event receiver
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.PublishingWebEventReceiver
in Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=12.0.0.0,
Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c. Additional
information is below.

: The site http://intranet/Temp could not be found in the Web
application SPWebApplication Name=MOSS_Intranet Parent=SPWebService.

I did not do any structural changing in SP2003 but MOSS as been
updated from Standard to Enterprise Server.

Does anyone have a clue on what might be happening here?

To overcome the problem  I had to rebuild the entire machine, including
operating system.

This is very strange for the database  migration and risky also!!!
any microsoft help is avaialble for this or any patch
because rebuilding eveithing is very time cosuming process.

We didn't have any answers and we could not afford to take the risk of
migrating to SharePoint 2007 with any kind of trouble. We wanted to
start "clean". At least, now, everything is working properly.
