database error

i am runnig windows sharepoint services ....yesterday i dont know i changed
somethin in central administration ..databases....now after that when i am
opening the home page an error msg appears after asking the psw "Unable to get
global configuration data."
i dont know wat had happend to it...i am using sql server 2000 on the same
machine

Has any of the service account's password changed or expired? You can
also trace the database  for failed log in attempts.
