Data View Web Part Timeouts

  Asked By: Dominique    Date: Jan 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1479

We have a dataview webpart that accesses some XML on the internet to
pull in our companies share price. Recently though, there has been
some problems with the external site we are getting the data from.

The result of this is that when you go to open the home page there is
a large delay before the home page opens.

Is there a timeout that can be adjusted (reduced) to reduce the delay
opening our homepage when our data suppliers web site is down? I
thought there may be a setting I can add in the defaultProxy section
but I haven't been able to find anything. The defaultproxy setting in
our web.config is as below.

<system.net>
<defaultProxy>
<proxy proxyaddress="http://proxy" bypassonlocal="true" />
</defaultProxy>
</system.net>

If anyone has some ideas on reducing the timeout could they please
let me know.
