You use FrontPage 2003 to place Data View Web Parts onto any SharePoint
Web Part Page.

I was able to disaply data  using data view  web part  connectiong to the northwind databse.

But i have got a query is it possible to connect to a csv file using the custom connection string.

I tried this

oConn.Open _
"Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};" & _
"Dbq=PCFBG96049\D:\MaterialsHelpdesk\;" & _
"Extensions=asc,csv,tab,txt"

My requirement is that i just want to display data present in a csv file on a page.

Any ideas.

I've added a data  view web  part into a SharePoint site via FrontPage.
I've played around with various options and now have it sorting and
filtering the list data nicely, but I'd also like to have a link to
add a new item to the list. It seems to show up by default with the
standard list web parts, but not with data view. Can anyone help?

The part  was designed to View data, not manipulate it...

You could probably accomplish what you want using a Form WebPart combined with a DVWP. Refer to my article for an example of connecting the two WebParts and executing a stored procedure. The sproc could do an update/insert if you wanted...

The simplest way is to work out the URL of the add item page for the
list, then edit the dataview part  in FrontPage to add a hyperlink to
that page in the header area, where the user can click on it.

I am not able to see the "Data View web  Part" in our MOSS 2007 install, in the
list of web parts. Do anyone else also have this problem? Is the name of this
web part  different in MOSS 2007.

It doesn't show up in the web  Part Gallery in the web UI. You have to use
SharePoint Designer to add it.

The Data View Web Part (now called the Data Form Web Part) can be added
to any Web Part Gallery by pressing the New toolbar option. However, you
will probably want to populate its properties using SharePoint Designer.

The solution has got to be simple, and i hoped google would help, but
after a couple hours of searching, i cannot find the answer.

I have a list named projects, and inserted a data  view web  part in SPD. No
errors, all of the data displays when the page is refreshed. what i'm having
trouble with is changing the column type within SPD to allow a user to click
on one of the records, and be taken to that record. if i change the type to
hyperlink, the configuration window appears and the default is {@title}. how
can i go about configuring the DVWP to correctly display?

Leave the Text to display as {@title} but change the address to be the relative
address of the DISPFORM.aspx file and add a parameter by appending ?ID={@ID} .
so the Address will look something like /lists/Projects/DispForm.aspx?ID={@ID}
