Asked By: Keaton    Date: Jan 17    Category: MOSS    Views: 1215

When i try to add a data view web part in sp designer 2007, i get a message :

“Server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source”

KB article on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923173 did not solve the problem. Do you have any idea??

You didn't specify if you were trying to build this view  in SP 2003 or
SP 2007. You can't use SP Designer in SP 2003.

The view  is in sp2007, web services on the server are working, but when i try to create a data  view, i get “Server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source” error.

This really isn't enough information for us to help you. As it says, you got a
"non-specific error". Can you be more specific about what you were trying to do
with the DVWP when you got the error?

When i add a dvwp to a layout page and want to list the data  in the
designer, this message is shown instead of data. Additionally when i try to
list the same data with web service instead of dataview webpart, there is no
problem. There is no additional error message shown in Spdesigner 2007. Ý
think this is something to do eith spdesigner because, webservices Works
normally.

I suspect that the XML that you are trying to show is invalid in some way.
That's the best I can guess given the data  available and the commonality of that
situation.
