Customing Alerts in WSS V2.0

I'm running WSS v2.0 and was curious to know if there was anyway to
customize the alert that a user subscribes to and receives in their
email inbox? Some of our customers are complaining that there is not

Alert customization in wss  v2 was limited at best. You could make some
changes to the four XML files in the 60 hive (..\60\TEMPLATE\1033\XML if

The four files that you are looking for are in ../60/TEMPLATE/1033/XML
and all begin with "Notif". I believe that these farm level files are
used to generate alerts  in WSS v2:

NotifSiteHdr.xml: Header for search alerts and the like. That is, alerts
that are not on a given list or list item.
NotifListHdr.xml: Header for alerts on a given list or list item
NotifItem.xml: Body of the alert.
NotifSiteFtr.xml: Footer for search alerts and the like.
