custom web parts in real time

I am new to sharepoint and presently I am reading about webparts. I have
created simple web parts using visual studio. My question is In real time
Intranet projects what kind of custom webparts we will be building? Please give
me some examples, and also is using 3rd party web parts is common in
organizations? plaese suggest me some 3rd party webparts which are commonly used
across organizations.

So much of what you ask depends on what kind of business you are supporting. Do
you work with financials, transportation, human resources, etc.?
