Custom View Style WSS 3.0?

Quick question, I can't find a good resource for this anywhere.. only
a bunch of requests for the same information...

How in WSS 3.0 can I create a custom View Style for SharePoint Lists?

In the 12 hive under Template\Global\XML there is an XML file called
VWStyles.XML. It contains CDATA tags that define the default View
Styles for a SharePoint list. Make a backup copy and then edit that
file very carefully to implement a new View Style.
