Custom Template Question

  Asked By: Palak    Date: Nov 04    Category: MOSS    Views: 11393

I was give a .stp file created by one of our engineering folks. She
uses SharePoint 2003 (where the .stp file came from) and I've been
tasked to import the tempalte into MOSS 2007.

Adding it into the Template Gallery was easy and I've doen this with
the templates from Microsoft. But, when I go to add a new site, the
new Custom Template is not availabel.

Is there issues of creating a Site Template in SharePoint 2003 and
using it in MOSS 2007?

The issue is that it can't be done. You'll have to create a site
with that template, upgrade to MOSS, then save the site out as a
template again for it to work in MOSS. It's not pretty, but that's the
story. If the site doesn't use any SPS specific stuff you could create
a virtual machine with WSS v2 and upgrade it to WSS v3 and save some
time.
