Custom MPS templates

Asked By: Stevie    Date: Dec 21    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 937

Is there any way to create custom workspace templates? I tried to copy
the MPS folder and rename it MPSCUSTOM, but when I select a workspace
template, the tabs don't work. I've read (on sharepointu.com) that
there is no way to do this, but thought maybe someone in this forum has
any ideas.

My other option is to edit the default files in the MPS folder, but
we're afraid that the service packs will overwrite our MPS folder.

Try copying the files  "inside" the MPS folder  and renaming each
template. Because of the imbedded paths to files, MPSCUSTOM will not
work, but a renamed template in the MPS folder should.

Oh, and yes, the service  packs may override them so you need to have
a seperate copy of the MPS folder  with edited templates, as well as
a good realtionship with your sys admin :)

Dutch installation so I may give false instructions
mentioning the way to do it.

But you need to save the site which you have
customized as desired as a template (.stp) and add it
to the list of available templates  using stsadm.
Except for the last it all can be done through the

Which tabs  are you referring too? I think you may want to read  this:

Basically what it is saying, is that you can not have an MPS custom  definition (in my case AWMPS) with a different ID, it is hard coded to be 2. Therefore you must remove the MPS definition from webtemp.xml, then add your own with an ID of 2. That worked for me…

I was previously going to implement the same
solution you suggest. It will work  for me, but I think I read
somewhere not to mess with the WEBTEMP.XML file (service packs,
updatess, etc...) Is this change supported by Microsoft or are there
any other caveats of this solution?
