Custom Login Page in SPS

Asked By: Keon    Date: Feb 23    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1127

Is it possible to have a custom login page instead of the dailog box
which comes up for user authentication? If yes how can we do it?
One option could be to create a aspx page for logging in. But how can i
transfer the user info to the sharepoint page
Is it necessary that we would have to use users from active directory
only? Can we have a role based users which is picked up the database
and who have access the certain parts of the portal or site based on
the roles???

Could anybody help or provide a pointer on these issues

The only ways to do this are to intercept the call with an ISAPI filter or with an off-server process, such as ISA. In either case, you’ll need to provide  HTTP based authentication  to SharePoint from the ISAPI filter or through the off-server process since SharePoint relies upon HTTP based  authentication.

I believe that we have a white paper authored by Fred Laforest about how
to use Forms-based authentication  in front of SharePoint in the
Mindsharp Premium Content area:

If you don't find it, let me know. I'll look around for it and make sure
it gets out there.
