Custom List w/ Sub-Items

Asked By: Shauna    Date: Oct 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3291

This is my first posting here, so thank you and hello. I would like
to make a list with custom content types and subitems.

I am making an outage notification list and would like to create a way
for users to post.

A: A main outage announcement
B: Detailed items for the work related to the announcement.

In this case the the main main outage announcement is simple to
create. My next step is to create sub-items that will display below
the main announcement. With the option to make multiple sub-items for
each main item.

If anyone has suggestions, I would be exstatic.

You are talking about data items  with an inherent parent->child relationship.
This can be done as one list  or two, but be careful if you are considering
crossing site boundaries (ie, having lists in different sites).

Pay attention to your permission & access requirements.

Think carefully about the reports or data views you need to see.

Look into 3rd party WEB parts for performing cross-joins on lists, they are
not that expensive and really do help. Bamboo is one such 3rd party. (I have
no business connection with them.)

You should specify whether you are on a WSS or MOSS system.
