Custom List

I created a custom list on SharePoint with a 'date and time' type column. Only problem is that it by default sharepoint will only allow me to enter time in 5 min intervals whereas I need it at 1 min intervals. Any Idea how this could be altered?

I know many users out there are facing this issue, I am hoping there is a solution that will help as well?
