Custom Edit form not picking up the ID parameter

Asked By: Jessica    Date: Jan 17    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2249

I could have sworn this was working. I built an edit form using the DVWP in
SharePoint Designer, and set it to be the default Edit form in Supporting
Files under List Properties (also through SPD). After exchanging the ListID
parameters for ListName params instead -- to promote portability -- it looks
like the form always comes up with the Item of ID=1 rather than the
currently specified Item ID.

However, when I rolled back to a previous version (that used the GUID rather
than the list name), I found it still didn't recognize the Item ID. What in
the world am I missing here?

When doing a custom  Editform you need to make sure you are passing the Item
ID as a parameter  in the url otherwise it defaults to ItemID=1.

That's what I figured... but when I added ID
as a parameter  -- pull from the querystring, with or without a default  value
-- the whole thing bombed ("Error displaying this web part", etc). I tried
it multiple times to make sure I wasn't fat-fingering something, but it
always ended up that way. I figured maybe it was some magical default
parameter built  in already and I was somehow interfering with it.

Does anyone have any good debugging tools for SPD (aside from source view,
which doesn't do much in situations like this)...?
