Crypt32 errors popping up on new MOSS web front ends when Office

Asked By: Bhavini    Date: Aug 17    Category: MOSS    Views: 841

I recently built two new MOSS web front ends, load-balanced them, and
then turned on and configured the Office Search Service on each,
selecting in the query role. At the same time I turned the query role
OFF on the original WFE running central admin, leaving only the index
role running. All three WFEs perform crawling.

My understanding is this is a required
configuration if you have more than one server running in the query
role. i.e.

Everything is working fine - sites are up, search is up. However, as
soon as I turned on the search service on the new WFEs, both of them
started having many Crypt32 errors in the application event log.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: crypt32
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8
Date: 09/08/2009
Time: 9:54:28 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MOSS1

Description: Failed auto update retrieval of third-party root list
sequence number from:
edr/en/authrootseq.txt> with error: This network connection does not
exist.

First, is this a worrisome issue in the context of SharePoint
operations? If yes, any ideas how to resolve? Any idea why turning on
the search service caused this? I saw this KB
(support.microsoft.com/default.aspx
<support.microsoft.com/default.aspx> ) which
seems to point to a proxy issue. Running proxycfg on either of the new
WFEs returns a setting of "Direct access (no proxy server)".

I'm out of ideas.
