Creating Web Application From Scratch in WSS 3.0

Asked By: Keaton Boyle         Date: Aug 30, 2006      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 273

would like to create a new web application that uses a friendly
URL such as http://appname and not the default name of
http://servername:port
Also, the default user seems to always be "System Account" whenever
I use the default settings on the "Create New Web Application" page.

The default Team Site web application is nice, but I'd like to have
additional web applications, and can't come close to replicating the
site that gets created when you intall WSS 3.0.

I've tried several times to create the new web application just the
way I want it, but every time something isn't quite right. The
trouble, is, there doesn't seem to be adequate documentation or
instructions, or examples on what all the settings do and how to
change them.

Some of what I've read makes reference to host name, DNS entries,
port changes, etc. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

Anyone have a link to some instructions on setting up a new web
application?
