Creating a view totaling discussion board replies

Asked By: Noemi    Date: Nov 04    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 20410

I've created an "Experts" Question & Answer site for our office,
that allows users to ask questions, and reply to questions that have
been asked. The site contains one large discussion board that
includes a topic field, so that different views of the discussion
board can be provided for each topic area. Examples of topic areas
might be things like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc. In order
to provide incentive for people to answer questions, I'd like to
display a list on the site's home page that shows who has answered
questions. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to create a view to get
the results I'm looking for. The view that I'm looking for would
display as follows:

Anderson, Tom 35
Swanson, Lori 32
Jenson, Allen 25

I have added a column to the discussion board, called "Answer
Provided By" (using Name with presence), and included instructions
tell users who ask questions to edit the discussion board item after
answers have been provided, and select the name of the person who
provided the best answer. I was thinking that I should then be able
to use the "Answer Provided By" field, along with the view's Totals
feature to generate the above view, but I can't seem to figure it
out. Anyone have any suggestions? One other thing... I don't have
Sharepoint Designer available to me.

This should be easy to do using a Data View web part via SharePoint
Designer (or FrontPage if you are still on WSS2/SPS2003).
