creating users

Asked By: Pankaj    Date: Oct 26    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 826

our actual requirement is to create a new user directly in the share point
(either from Central administration) in WSS 3.0

Right now we are creating a new
user in the following manner:
Start>Program
File> Administrative Tools> Computer
Management

Here we are creating a new user
and adding the respective user in the created share point site with the required
permissions.

Now we want to
create the same type of user directly in the share point without using any
coding or .net
Do we require
MOSS for creating such type of users?

That's a completely different question than what I thought I was answering.
MOSS/WSS need a source for user  accounts “ either a Windows user (AD
preferred, but a local user like you are doing now will work for a single server
environment) or some other kind of user that can be used for Forms-based
authentication. There is really only 1 way to do this without requiring a
separate user creation step (what you describe) or code (forms-based
authentication). Take a look at "Active Directory Account Creation Mode"
for WSS “ it has some limitations and requires an AD environment, but it will
do the on-demand account creation it looks like you are looking for.

You can create  a group in Active Directory and add that group to SharePoint,

later you can add as many users  as you want to AD using may be some scripting
and they all will get access to SP. <-- This is best practice

Also , not so gr8 method , which u can try is AD integration Mode with
SharePoint

Thanks to ur help. solved the issue of login by FBA.

but our client do not provide ASP.net at their side.so how can we replicate the
step of creating  users( that we do using website->ASP.NET Configuration->
security in .net). we are provided with SQL Server 2005.

we sucessfully did in our server but we now have to do directly  connecting to
client machine where in we r provided with only sharepoint central  admin + MS
SQL SERVER 2005

Actaually we followed the below link. it contains a video, a walkthrough of
Forms Based authentication.

http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/In+the+Office/Anonymous-Access-and-Forms-Authenti\
cation-with-WSS-30/

But we are getting Unknown error some times and also Access denied ..Sign in as
a different user  not able to know where the problem is actually. according to
the video the site  is being created  in default web site but we are creating  out
of it. do we really need to create  a sharepoint site under Default web site in
IIS? in our case while creating a new web applicaion in sharepoint central
adminstrator "Using existing IIS website" is getting disabled. how can we make
it enable.

we tried this in almost 4 different servers and more than 30 times..but still no
luck.
till now only in one server we were able to succed but the next day its not
working again.
please help me in this ..as its the urgent requirement  from my cllient and also
more useful for me.
