Creating Project using Visual Studio 2003...

Asked By: Stephanie    Date: Feb 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1406

I tried everything to create a new asp.net project using Visual
studio .net by logging remotely on to the server, but no luck, I
also have sharepoint 2003 installed on the same server

I keep getting this error:

"unable to create web project "_layouts/webapplication1" the file
path "C:\....." does not correspond to the URL. The two need to map
to the same server location HTTP Error 404: not found.

I have spent lot of time doing research on this.

Would any person who has come across this like to suggest me some
help, or guide me in some direction.

The httpModule of Sharepoint (or wss) is intercepting all the calls to your
virtual directory and doesn't let VS.Net create a new virtual dir. So the
trick is or- to make first the directory (eg. C:\data\myProject), than make
in IIS you virtual dir, and as last exclude the virtual dir in the managed
paths section
Or you can rename your Default Web Site to lets say "Sharepoint Site" and
let it run on another port, and create a new Default Web Site on port 80.
