Asked By: Jackie    Date: Oct 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1050

I installed Sharepoint 2003. When i try to create a portal site, it ask
for the site name virtual server etc.. which were provided. after
clicking ok button , the creationprocess starts but for some reason it
stops at 99%. I am not sure why this is happening? Any pointers on what
could be the problem.
I have installed it with microsoft SQL server desktop engine.. I can
find the database domainname\sharepointportal.

You might have a problem where the process ID is unable to access the
config DB. Try running this process using the stsadm tool in a command
window. It gives you the err message which is not visible via the GUI
web interface.

How long do you wait before you give up? Sometimes the build will hang at 99%,
and then resume the build.

Are you running disconnected from a network? Do you have the machine
name of the server in the hosts file?

I am within the network... where do i check for the hosts file?

Since your server is a member of a network and you are connected the
problem, the server name should be resolvable to an IP address. So, the
hosts file isn't the problem.

But just for reference, you can find the hosts file in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ directory.
