I ordered a new book from Amazon; workflow  in the 2007 Microsoft Office
System http://tinyurl.com/3bvrck because workflow will be so important to
my organization. The book should be delivered this week. You might want to
also give it a try.

There are three options for workflows  in MOSS.

1. OOB workflows provided with MOSS

2. Custom, easy to build workflows with Sharepoint designer

3. Custom, complex workflows with VS2005

According to your requirements, you can select one of these. To send
customized emails to users  when new discussion  is added, you can use
the sharepoint designer workflows.

In general, workflows  are
processes that are long running and usually contain human interaction --
hence the task list. Event handlers happen immediately, and don't
require human interaction. For an auto email  feature, I would consider
creating an event handler and adding it to your site using features.
This is discussed in detail in the book..

I would also add that the current version allows you to add other
users to Alerts, which would be a simple OOB solution to e-mailing
when a discussion  is added.

Select your discussion, go to Actions -> Alert me, add the users  or
distribution list you want to recieve the e-mail in the "Send Alerts
To" box, configure the remaining options and your done.

Alternatively, send them all a link to the RSS feed and let them opt
