Creating a mapped network drive to a document library

Asked By: Jagdish Bargi         Date: Mar 03, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 861

I hope this is a simple one. But I am trying to create a mapped
network drive to a sharepoint document library. From my client I do
the following:
Start --> My Computer --> Tools --> Map Network Drive

I select a drive letter and I enter the following:

\\insight2\Doc_control\release
I get an error saying it failed because it cant cannect to the
network, yet I have created a network place to the library and it
works fine.

or if i use the browse option I can browse to the library but do not
get the OK option.

Does anybody have any ideas? I am a newbie at this.

Are you sure this is possible, a document  library is not a physical drive, it's
really just content on a web page?

I was able to do this without issue. create  the
network connection first. Then browse  to it via My
Computer. Tools, map network  drive ...

This only works if your desktop operating system is Windows XP - there
is a DAV redirector in the op sys that converts the SMB calls into
WEbDAV calls...
