Creating a KPI List to track Project Schedule

can we create a way that KPI columns like value goal and warning to be based on some other columns in the list. I have to create a KPI For schedule of my project the more closer we came to the due date my warning level goes on increasing. I am not looking for a spread sheet coz i want this to be happened from sharepoint list using Excel Spreadsheet i guess it should be preety easier.
