Create SSP Problem - Provisioning failed: User cannot be found

Asked By: Miriam    Date: Dec 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 10922

I am trying to create an new(default) SSP for a new farm. The web app
for the SSP and Mysite have already been created successfully. When I
actually try to create the SSP, it runs for a really long time and gets
a thread error. On the Manage the Farm's Shared services page, I see
the error "Provisioning failed: User cannot be found".

The event log messages are coming from timer jobs meant to keep the
SSP up to date with the database and vice versa. Since the SSP
creation failed  part way through, these timer jobs were created  even
thought the SSP isn't fully functional.

The SSP creation probably failed because the Web Application Service
Account (the Identity of the App Pool for the SSP) doesn't have
either local admin rights, or doesn't have DB creation rights.

You're in one of the 70+ failure cases I ran into trying to get MOSS
to operate happily. Don't spaz -- you'll get there eventually. You
can thank MS for the excellent educational benefits of your efforts.
