You cannot create a site because a site has already been created with your username

The guy's name is impossible to spell for most of us thickheaded
Americans. So the Active Directory people have had to change it two
or three times.

Now, when he clicks on My Site, he get the error:

You cannot create a site because a site has already been created with
your username.

Worse, it tells him to contact the SharePoint Administrator and that's
me.

I have not tried your suggestion for a couple of reasons.

I do not know the relationship between the users in this list and
their "MySite." When I delete the former, am I sure that the latter
will be deleted also?

I was hoping to delete the site  that had been created  earlier but
didn't know how and, worse, I'm afraid there's content out there
that we do not want to lose.

If I we to delete the user from this list, I presume he would be
recreated the next time the Profile Update routine runs.

I would be most gratefule if you or anyone else could help with
these questions.
