create a managed property by using the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 object model

Asked By: Ruchir    Date: Apr 20    Category: MOSS    Views: 1732

I'm using WSS 3.0. I have a document library and I added 2 custom text
columns (Category, ShortTitle). I marked them to be indexed and after
testing a FullTextSqlQuery (SELECT rank, title, path, author FROM scope()
WHERE freetext('" + strText + "')";) with terms unique to Category
and ShortTitle, it shows that the new columns are indexed. What I
would like to do is be able to select those columns and search on
those columns seperately (I.E. select Category, title, etc... where
Category="blah"). I understand that I need to map them as a managed
property in Shared Serviced which is only available in MOSS 2007. We
aren't using MOSS, so I need to find a way around this. I see that I
could install the Search Server Express. Would that give me the
functionality desired? Also, without installing Search Server Express,
could someone explain how I could create a managed property in WSS 3.0
using the object model. Maybe I can execute the code in a feature
receiver?
