Create Import Connection For User Profile And Properties

Can anyone point me in the direction of a technical guide or article on
how to create an import connection for user profile and properties for
an LDAP (ADAM) connection?

I have found a couple of articles so far but they assume you know what
you are doing (which is not true in my case).
