Copyright symbol in footer in SharePoint

Asked By: Colt    Date: Oct 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1261

We have a © symbol in the footer.htc file on our SharePoint sites.
When you view the footer file via the browser, it looks fine. When
SharePoint renders the footer, it displays the © as a question mark
(?). Any ideas here? Thanks.

Issues like this are almost always character set/encoding related. Whenever you are using anything beyond ASCII characters, you have to be super-vigilant to always include the proper character encoding so that the various processes can interpret your source files correctly. In this case, you should have an easy work around. I believe HTML defines an escape sequence for the copyright symbol  so you should be able to use © in its place and the browser  will render than as you expect.

Try using © in your footer.htc
