Controlling the option to delete files and folders

I would like to prevent users from deleting files in a specific folder. I
believe it is possible to hide the 'Delete' option from user in they access the
Portal through a browser however, what about the Web folders? I would at least
want to log if any files are deleted from a specific workspace or folder.
Perhaps someone is working on something similar or has an idea that I can try.

First and foremost, only authors and coordinators can delete  the files, whether
it is from browser  or from web  folder. So if the user  has reader access, then he
cannot delete it. Thats the greatness of SPS!!!
