Content Source Question

Asked By: Shana Graves         Date: Mar 17, 2010      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 355

I've asked this before but nobody has been able to give an answer so
I'll be a bit more verbose with my question.

We have a a large file share called "Projects" (it's mapped to most
peoples P drive).
I want to be able to make that content searchable through SPS.

I follow the procedure:
1) Within the Workspace, select Content Sources
2) Add Content Source
3) Go through the wizard, fill in the fileshare location
\\machine\sharename
4) Enter a name for the content source "Projects"
5) Finish the wizard, and have it start creating an index.

It does that, in about 30 minutes it has indexed 25000 items. I also
schedule it to update the index every 24 hours.

OK, success? I suppose..but now what?

How do I see the contents of the index? I would assume I could just
do a search from the dashboard, but searching for known contents
returns nothing, how do I make the Content Source I just created
viewable from the dashboard site? I'm still confused!

have you tried another file  share content  source? You might try a
small content source  with a word document that you have full permission.
Test it and see if a query returns it for a result.
Also, permission might be another reason why it would not show as a
result. Sharepoint will respect the NTFS permissions when it indexes.

I tried your suggestion, made a local share  and put an obvious
document in it (called XXX.doc), I made a search scope for the
content source, did a search, and it WORKED!

Ok, so now I have to figure out why the other search scope on the
content source  returns no results. I don't think it's a permission
thing, I (as my current loggedon user) has permissions to view/edit
all the documents in that share I'm trying to index.

Another question, for this test, I created a search scope called
TEST, I deleted the content  course thinking this would rid the portal
of the TEST search scope but it didn't..How do I delete a SEARCH
SCOPE?
