Content Management Add-ons alternatives?

We are not very happy at the user experience around SharePoint’s Content Management workflow - especially the inline editing UI ("Modify Web Part", etc) is not very intuitive and we are concerned about adoption in the user community with such an interface

DNN is not really a consideration for us, but I am curious if any one here know of Content Management add-o alternatives that are this nice as a layer over SharePoint?

I searched high and low and could not find any.

I know that someone was touting a new WCM overlay for WSS that gave MOSS-like features.
