Content Editor Webpart Audience setting clears when updating content

Using SharePoint 2007....

We've just discovered a problem using the Content Editor Web Part in
conjunction with the "Target Audiences" setting. On our home portal
page we have a number of Content Editor Web Parts that are viewed
seperately based on student audience settings (admitted/not yet
admitted). They work fine until we go back and edit content in them.
After the editing is completed the "Target Audiences" setting is
cleared out.

Has anyone had a problem like this with a workaround?
