Content Deployment Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

an anyone assist with how to troubleshoot this Content Deployment Error (source and destination server versions are 12.0.0.6504, SP2 + April 09 CU):


"Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.GetListTemplates..."

This can happen if you're not starting with a blank template in your destination  site. (Note that when you create a new site collection, using the "Blank" site template is not the same as creating a site collection without a template. You can create a blank site collection using the stsadm tool.)

Debugging a content  deployment job can be difficult. Here are a couple good online references for troubleshooting:
