Connection to Exchange 2000 Teamfolders

Asked By: Sansuma    Date: Apr 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 719

I have posted this question already but didn't get an answer. I'll try it
again, because it is a crucial point for the implementation of Sharepoint.

Is there a possibility to connect to the Teamfolders of Exchange 2000
(Outlook) into webparts or other applications of Sharepoint. As the
teamfolders have websites based on the Digital Dashboard-Technology there
should be no problem, is that so? If there is a possibility to do that then
how does it work? I want to have my users getting access to the teamfolder
discussion groups and contacts etc. directly from Sharepoint without opening
up Outlook and stuff. In the Managing Content White Paper it says it is
possible but unfortunately it doesn't say anything about how to do that. I
know I can crawl the content of an Exchange Server but that only means i
can then search for content there without any portal functions, am I right?

I'm no expert on SharePoint, but I have read in several industry magazines,
and my own personal experience is that Office XP has NO SUPPORT for Team
Folders or Shared Folders as in Office 2000. You are using Office 2000
apparently or at least Outlook 2000, but I haven't' seen much about using
the 2000 Office or Outlook with SharePoint. Sharepoint is a replacement for
Team/Shared Folders and I have been unable to find anyway to support them
with Outlook 2002(XP). I'm presently having to run Outlook 2000 instead of
2002 with Office XP until I can modify our programs. And since SharePoint's
features work best with the Office XP programs, it appears Microsoft is
trying to kill the Team/Shared Folders. We use Team Folders and Shared
Folders a lot and we aren't to happy about this either.

There's several MS product at play here:

* Outlook Team Folders (Exchange public folder/Outlook based)
* SharePoint Portal Server (WSS-based)
* SharePoint Team Services (FrontPage 2002/Office XP based)

It's important to be clear.

Outlook Team Folders was released at the same time as the original digital
dashboard starter kit (DDSK) (almost extactly 2 years ago this month). OTF
looks like it does but in fact doesn't use the DD framework.

SPS uses the DD framework for its web portal.

STS uses FrontPage 2002 web bots (and not the DD framework).
